Mirror Ball Placement

Do I need one Spotlight or two spotlights with my Mirror Ball?

A frequently asked question is how many spotlights you should focus on a Mirror Ball? Often people are unsure if a Mirror Ball with one Spotlight will provide the proper coverage for an area or if you will need two spotlights. How many spotlights are required can be a concerning question, but the Mirror Ball’s placement will provide an answer.

Typically a spotlight focused on a Mirror Ball will illuminate one side of the Mirror Ball. Therefore, half of the Mirror Ball will be illuminated and reflect pins of light. As a result, the opposite side of the Mirror Ball remains dark and does not reflect any pins of light.

In Brief:

In brief, a Mirror Ball at the center of a room or dance floor will require two (or more) spotlights. On the other hand, a Mirror Ball set near a wall or along the edge of a dance floor will only need one Spotlight.

The Spotlight:

  • The beam of light emitted from the Spotlight must be greater than the diameter of the Mirror Ball.
  • Additionally, the Spotlight should have the appropriate brightness for the room/dancefloor.
  • A brighter spotlight will provide a greater coverage distance from the Mirror Ball.
  • A properly placed spotlight will provide greater width of coverage around the Mirror Ball.

Mirror Ball Placement with One Spotlight

One Spotlight with a Mirror Ball:

One Spotlight with a Mirror Ball is appropriate if the Mirror Ball is at the side of a room/dancefloor. The Spotlight is on the opposite side of the room/dancefloor from the Mirror Ball. Therefore, the side of the Mirror Ball that is bright from the Spotlight should face most of the room/dancefloor. Typically this will provide proper coverage for the area in use around the Mirror Ball.

Mirror Ball Placement with Two Spotlights

Two Spotlights with a Mirror Ball:

A Mirror Ball at the center of a dance floor will require two spotlights. Each Spotlight is set on opposite sides of the Mirror Ball and illuminates half of the Mirror Ball. Thus, one Spotlight will shine on one side of the Mirror Ball, and the second Spotlight will shine on the other side. As a result, the entire room/dancefloor around the Mirror Ball will receive good coverage with pins of light.
