Universal Light and Sound is proud to have provided lighting for the Brooklyn Historical Society’s annual fundraiser, Brooklyn Bounty/. This year’s event featured a historical feast of food inspired by traditional Dutch-American recipes. Moreover, the recipes came from a handwritten recipe book owned by Maria Lott Lefferts and her daughter Gertrude Lefferts Vanderbilt. As a lighting company, we understand the importance of highlighting historical events and artifacts. Therefore, it is understandably an honor to be part of such an important evening.
An Historical Feast hosted by The Brooklyn Historical Society
The Brooklyn Historical Society has been keeping the history of Brooklyn alive since its founding in 1863. The society’s mission is to connect the past to the present, and this includes preserving and promoting Brooklyn’s rich history. The annual fundraiser, Brooklyn Bounty, is one way the society raises funds to continue its work. This year’s event had a unique twist with the focus on traditional Dutch-American cuisine. The star of the evening was Mrs. Lefferts’ handwritten recipe book. It was from 1830 and owned by Maria Lott Lefferts and her daughter Gertrude Lefferts Vanderbilt. Maria Lott Lefferts was from a prominent Brooklyn family and lived in the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. The recipe book is filled with traditional Dutch dishes passed down in the Lefferts family through the generations. The menu for the evening was inspired by this book, with a few modern twists, of course.
The evening was a great success, with guests enjoying the historical cuisine and learning more about Brooklyn’s past. Universal Light and Sound was proud to have been a part of the event. So, it was an honor to provide AV equipment for this event. Our team worked closely with the event planners to creating an ambiance that enhances the overall experience for guests.
